A new era of micron resolution imaging is emerging. To determine a disease process in tissue, surgeons obtain a sample of tissue and submit it to a pathologist for histological analysis. Perhaps in the not too distant future, detailed imaging will provide enough data to accurately characterize tissues and diagnose noninvasively.
Hierarchical Phase-Contrast Tomography (HiP-CT) allows for whole organ to micron scale imaging. Potential applications are exciting and immense.
