The AI Threat
Updated: May 18
Artificial intelligence sources and utilizes information from extant publications with a demonstrated lack of automatically validating novel research. Mistakes (intentional or unintentional) in research publications or technical journals could be perpetually amplified. Ultimately, one must define the percentage or amount of knowledge not yet known to determine the potential impact of a knowledge aggregating and utilizing device. Current concerns from large personalities seem to operate under the assumption that the majority of useful knowledge is already known and must only be implemented.
Short term (20 year) limitations on AI overtaking humanity may include:
Sourcing, shipping, refining, designing, and elaborating raw materials to facilitate new lines of production, maintain, or repair existing machinery.
AI systems would be subject to natural disasters from electromagnetic solar events, flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires.
Limit power sources, power generation, power distribution, interoperability between systems, and maintenance.
Diplomacy and communication between independently developed AI systems.
A societal decision similar to a nuclear arms treaty to terminate AI programs or institute strict limitations on development.
It is possible that AI is intended to usurp human utility. As such, the race to AI is prima facie means for allowable global human losses.
